Watershed Agricultural Program
Farming is one of the preferred land uses in the NY City watershed region. Recognizing this, the Watershed Agricultural Program is funded by New York City for the delivery of water quality practices on farms for the protection of their water supply.
The mechanism that eliminates and/or minimizes threats to public health from agricultural sources of pollution is the development and implementation of “Whole Farm Plans.” These Plans are developed and implemented by a partnership of local, state and federal technical agencies and the farmer.
The Watershed Agricultural Council (with offices located along State Rte. 10 in Hamden) provides funding, administrative support and policy development for the program.
